Thing 12--Rollyo

This is interesting. Since you need to already know the websites you want to use, it may take me a while to create a useful search roll, but I definitely see a use to this. I started a search roll about homeschooling/unschooling, which I plan to do/am doing with my son. Not 100% clear on how it works & have to get back to (real) work, so no link for now.....

Thing 11--Web 2.0 Award Winners

I chose last.fm to explore. http://www.last.fm/dashboard/ I don't totally get how this works yet, but I enjoyed it so far. Users can "create streaming radio stations" and listen to those others have created. Once again, I'm not hip to the lingo which is probably contributing to my non-understanding of how this site is supposed to work. But I like that I can listen to all kinds of music & see what other people like that like what I like. (Does that make any sense?) This has obvoius (to me anyway) application in libraries to assist patrons in getting music they want but can't request & discovering something new.

Thing 10 - Image Generators

Mmmmmm......
I saw a "___ for Dummies" book cover generator that looked like fun, but my ideas for it couldn't be called tasteful.

Thing 9--Locate a few news feeds

Enough already! This is too time consuming. Thing 8 asked me to find ten feeds I probably won't use, so why do more? I looked at Technorati, Feedster and Syndic8. I get the idea. I don't have hobbies that make this relevant and I'm really not interested in reading other people's blogs (I saw one in Technorati that was full of woe is me I should end it now--tagged as health & wellness--so I had to end it now). I'm moving on to Thing 10.

Thing 8, Part 2

After I went home the day I completed Thing 8, I was thinking about the lesson and I realized that RSS is much simpler than the exercise made it seem. Maybe it's my learning style, but all the "overviews" with their technical lingo were difficult for me to focus on (it sounded way too abstract), but once I started doing it I found it was really quite easy. I learn better by being shown & then doing, so it might be me. At any rate I feel alot of time was wasted on this exercise.

Thing 8 - RSS feeds & Bloglines

I did the various RSS discovery exercises and created a Bloglines account. I don't have 10 feeds yet, but I'm working on it. The truth is I wouldn't be using this in my "real life" so I don't have loads of ideas. It's a very useful thing to know, tho, and I'm sure someday I will need this.
Here is my public URL to share:
but I'm not sure if this is right. Let's test it out...
It wasn't right, but now it is:
http://www.bloglines.com/public/squeakycheese
The share button was not where the learning 2.0 blog indicated but I did find it. However it was not mentioned that I would have to specifically set up my account to be publicly viewed, which was why it didn't work at first.
Slow going sometimes, but I'm glad I'm doing this.
And now...
the bookdrop!

Thing 7 - Something technology related

Ummm....
I'm not much for technology (this isn't really true, its more that I use what I already know and need on a regular basis and don't bother with the rest). I like it, but learning new tech things takes too much time so I often don't bother. I'm having fun with the 2.0 stuff, tho. It's making me want to buy a digital camera. I will soon. I haven't started a flickr account but I definitely plan to. I don't have much to say on this topic (yet...16 more "things" will surely give me something else to say)
